Routine eye checkup
Glaucoma, early cataract and diabetic damage all begin without symptoms. A proper examination finds them while there is still something to do about them.
Kaikondrahalli, Sarjapur Main Road
Dr. Rinku Das, eye surgeon. Cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinas and children’s eyes, on the first floor above Stone Icecream.
Walk in patients are seen. Saturday is the busiest day, weekday mornings the quietest.

This is a real photograph from her clinic, put through the way an uncorrected eye sees it. Keep scrolling and it resolves, which is roughly what cataract surgery does over a couple of days.

I am currently undergoing treatment here and have had a very positive experience so far. The doctor is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and professional. She listens carefully to all my concerns, takes the time to understand the problem thoroughly, and explains the diagnosis and treatment plan in a clear and detailed manner.Ankur Nigam, Google, a month ago
Pick the line closest to your own and it will tell you what to book, and roughly what to expect. It is not a diagnosis. It saves you guessing which of eleven treatments applies to you.

Practo lists thirty treatments on her profile. These are the eleven people come for, each with its own page rather than a line in a list.

Glaucoma, early cataract and diabetic damage all begin without symptoms. A proper examination finds them while there is still something to do about them.
02
Cataract is the most common reason patients come to this clinic, and it is the operation Dr. Rinku Das trained specifically to do. Her fellowship in IOL and microsurgery was completed at JPM Rotary Eye Hospital, Cuttack, in 2010.
03
Dr. Rinku Das holds a fellowship in glaucoma from Susrut Eye Foundation, Kolkata, completed in 2012, and is a member of the Glaucoma Society of India. Glaucoma is the condition she trained longest for.
04
Diabetic retinopathy damages the small blood vessels of the retina long before vision changes. Screening exists because the treatable stage has no symptoms at all.
05
It sounds minor until you have it. Dry eye is one of the most common reasons people in this part of Bengaluru come in, and screen heavy work is why.
06
Children assume everyone sees the way they do, so they do not complain. Vision problems in children turn up as behaviour instead: sitting close to the screen, losing interest in books, headaches, marks slipping.
07
Laser vision correction works very well in the right eye and is a poor idea in the wrong one. The assessment matters more than the technology, so that is where this starts.
08
Uveitis is inflammation inside the eye. Treated early it usually settles. Left alone it causes cataract, glaucoma and retinal damage, so it is one of the few eye conditions where a few days matter.
09
Practo lists pterygium among the three commonest reasons patients come to see Dr. Rinku Das. Years of sun, wind and dust are why it is so common here.
10
A lens sits on your eye all day and has to match its curvature and its tear film, not just its power. That is why a proper fitting has four parts and a trial.
11
A prescription that is right and glasses that are made wrong give you the same headache. Here both happen in the same place, so the fit is checked against the eyes that were examined.

Seventeen of her Google reviews single out the same thing. Not the equipment, not the price. That she *explains* what is actually happening to your eyes.
MBBS, MS Ophthalmology. Fellowship trained twice over: intraocular lens and microsurgery at JPM Rotary Eye Hospital in Cuttack, and glaucoma at Susrut Eye Foundation in Kolkata.
She qualified in medicine in 2000 and specialised in ophthalmology in 2009. Before opening this clinic in January 2019 she worked as a consultant ophthalmologist at Melvin Jones Lions Eye Hospital, Vasan Eye Care and Devi Eye Hospital. Her Google reviews are tagged for clear explanations more often than for anything else, seventeen times, which is a fair description of how a consultation here goes.
If you have the power to influence the situation, please use it selflessly to alleviate the pain of your fellow being and spread happiness.
In her own words: he always taught her to use whatever power she has to help others and spread happiness. Even though he is no longer here, his values and blessings continue to give her strength and purpose.
The clinic opened in January 2019 and marked its first anniversary by screening more than sixty children, free, at a school on Sarjapur Road. That has been the pattern since.
Protect. Care. Enhance.
And 94 per cent of 559 patients on Practo say they recommend her. Google groups reviews by subject: clear explanations is the most tagged, seventeen times, then cataract surgery thirteen times.

Not a stock library. Her rooms, her equipment, her frame wall, her stairs, and the camps she runs on her own time.

The consultation fee is 800 rupees, as published on the clinic’s Practo profile. Anything beyond a standard examination is explained and priced before it is done.
Walk in patients are seen, but you may wait. Booking is better. Saturday is the busiest day of the week and weekday mornings are the quietest, which is worth knowing if waiting is difficult for you or for an elderly patient.
Dilating drops are needed whenever the retina has to be examined properly, which includes most first visits and every diabetic check. Vision stays blurred and light sensitive for a few hours afterwards, so arrange not to drive and bring sunglasses.
Your current glasses or contact lenses, any earlier prescription or eye report, a list of your medicines, and if you are diabetic your latest sugar readings. For a child, bring any school vision report.
Yes. The clinic offers a video consultation over WhatsApp by prior appointment, for patients who cannot come in, with a follow up visit to the clinic afterwards. Anything involving pain, sudden loss of vision or injury needs to be seen in person.
It is on the first floor at 10/3, 2055, Sarjapur Main Road, Kaikondrahalli. Look for Anand Sweets and Stone Icecream at street level, opposite the fire station. The entrance and stairs are beside them.

Yes. Squint, lazy eye, refractive errors, blocked tear ducts and school vision problems are all seen here, and vision can be measured in children far too young to read letters.
