The prescription and the glasses, under one roof

A prescription that is right and glasses that are made wrong give you the same headache. Here both happen in the same place, so the fit is checked against the eyes that were examined.

Consultation ₹800. Monday to Saturday, 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Closed Sunday.

Why it matters that it is the same place

Most glasses that do not work are not wrong in power. They are wrong in fit: the optical centres do not sit in front of your pupils, the frame slips, the lens is too far from the eye, or a progressive corridor is placed too high. In the clinic the finished glasses are checked against the examination they came from, which is the step that gets missed when the two happen in different shops.

How it goes

The clinic describes a six step process, done in around forty five minutes once your examination is complete.

  • Digital eye mapping: measurement for the lens, taking about ninety seconds
  • Lifestyle assessment: how you actually use your eyes, for screens, driving, reading or work
  • Frame selection: matched to your prescription as well as your face, because strong powers do not suit every shape
  • Lens customisation: blue light filtering, ultraviolet protection, anti glare and scratch resistant coatings
  • Pressure free fitting: adjusted so the frame sits level and does not grip
  • Follow up: a check a week later to confirm the fit and the clarity have held

Choosing lenses without being sold to

Anti glare coating is worth it for anyone who drives at night or works on a screen. A higher index thin lens is worth it if your power is strong, and a waste of money if it is not. Photochromic lenses that darken outdoors suit people who are in and out all day. Blue light filtering helps some people with evening screen comfort, and the evidence that it protects the retina is weak, so it is offered on that honest basis. Progressives need a proper corridor measurement and a two week adjustment period.

Children’s glasses

Different requirements entirely. Flexible hypoallergenic frames that survive being sat on, a strap for toddlers, polycarbonate lenses because they do not shatter, and a fit that stays put while a child runs. A child’s glasses that slide down their nose are glasses they are not looking through.

When to replace

Have the eyes checked every year. Lenses generally need replacing every two years or when your power changes, and sooner if they are scratched, because a scratched lens scatters light and causes exactly the glare people buy coatings to avoid.

Booking this

Ring +91 82963 57123, message the clinic on WhatsApp, or use the booking form. Say it is about glasses and opticals so the right amount of time is set aside, and mention it if your eyes may need dilating so you can arrange not to drive.

Questions people ask about this

Can I bring a prescription from elsewhere?

Yes. Bring the prescription and, if you have them, your current glasses. If the prescription is more than a year old, an eye check is worth doing first.

How long do glasses take?

Straightforward single vision prescriptions are usually quick. Progressives and high or specialised powers take longer, and you are given a date when you order.

Are expensive lenses better?

Sometimes, and only for specific reasons: a high power benefits from a thinner index, night driving benefits from anti glare. Paying more without one of those reasons buys very little.

Do I need a separate pair for the computer?

If you are over forty and spend the day at a screen, a dedicated intermediate pair is often much more comfortable than pushing progressives to do the job.
